Dressage Tests

Mynydd Riding Club is based near Bridgend in South Wales. We are affiliated to British Riding Clubs, and part of Area 15. We are run by volunteers and meet every Thursday evening at Pencoed College, and a Monday evening at various locations. Our ethos is to encourage riders of all ages and abilities to improve their riding and horsemanship, whilst having fun. Our club has grown considerably over the last few years!

 Text the club phone on 07923900114 to book in. Last minute spaces are generally advertised by members on our Facebook Group Page or can be emailed out to members if you send to and put your space time, name and your contact e-mail for people to reply to.

The Sj and Flat clinic that was on the 25/5/14 has been moved to the 11/5/14. Flat work is with Jane Ford. These clinics are open to all members. They can be used as practices for the Qualifiers or to improve members riding. We have 3 qualifiers coming up: Sapey ODE Qualifier 8/6/14. This is dressage Sj and Xc. We are running the Dressage part of this qualifier. We need 10 members to volunteer to help us run this. We need dressage writers, score collectors and Stewards to direct to arenas. If any member doesn't wish to compete , but can help for the day we would be very grateful. We will have a helpers car going up so an take some helpers. Last year 10 members volunteered and they were all fab! The day proved to be a success. 
Usk Dressage Qualifier 21/6/14. 
Alps Show jumping Qualifier 26/7/14. Our Club are running this a Qualifier and we need helpers to make the day work. We need arena stewards, general stewards, runners to collect scores. Anyone who can help for even a few hours please contact Estelle who is keeping a list. Every team that enters needs to provide a volunteer for 2 hours so even if you're competing but a family member can help, we would appreciate it. Anyone wanting to compete in Qualifiers text Estelle on 07530680346.

Our junior team had a fab time at the Riding Clubs Championships on the 30th March 2014. The course was a good challenge and all enjoyed.

20th to 23rd March 2014 Camp at Stockland Lovell went really well. A very well attended and well organised camp, thank you Stockland Lovell!

Wednesday 12th March Cotts Equine Vet Talk at Pencoed RFC went really well, with a buffet provided by cotts it was very interesting. The raffle raised £60 for Lluest Horse & Pony Trust. Thank you all!

Team Show Jumping 26th February at Talygarn
Great Team Show Jumping at Talygarn. Thank you to Chris and Steve for hosting a friendly day. As usual our members pulled together and well done to everyone who competed. Our 1 ft 9 team Mynydd Marshmallows consisted of Betty Lamont, Holly Sansom, Megan Jeffries and Vicky Emblyn Davies. They ended on 12f and were placed 4 th and all rode some superb rounds. Our 2 ft teams - Mynydd Merits ...consisting of Megan Jeffries, Cerys Davies, Holly Sansom and Vicky Davies . This team ended on 8f and were placed 5th. The Mynydd Magpies ended on 12f and were placed 6th. The team consisted of Leanne Thomas, Erin Bartle, Sue Aldridge and Beth Barton. Our 2 ft 3 teams - Mynydd Madonnas consisted of Rhian Carter, Vicky McCarthy Caitltn Wells and Maxine Dommett. They finished on 4 f and were placed 2nd. The Mynydd Moonbeams also finished on 4f and were placed 3rd. This team consisted of Cerys Davies, Erin Bartle, Sophie Davies and Sue Beckman. The Mynydd Missions finished on 12f and although weren't placed jumped some great rounds! The team consisted of Iwan Thomas Bartle, Beth Barton, Chelsea Davies and Sandra Andrews. Well done Iwan having 2 double clears. Our 2 ft 6 teams the Mynydd Marbles and Mynydd Machines battled for 1st place. The Mynydd Marbles finished on Clear and were placed 1st. The team consisted of Maxine Dommett, Iwan Thomas Bartle, Natalie Webb and Vicky McCarthy. Fab result congrats to all! The Mynydd Machines finished on 4f and were placed 2nd. The team consisted of Rhian Carter, Caitlyn Wells, Sue Beckman and Emiky Andrews. Great result! The Mynydd Movers finished on 28f and were placed 4th. This team consisted of Chelsea Davies, Sophie Davies, Abbie Taylor and Nicola Mcnabb. Thank you to everyone who competed. You all rode superb and I enjoy organising such a lovely bunch of people.
23rd February 2014 Area 15 Winter Show Jumping Qualifiers at Pencoed
Congratulations to all our members who competed today in the Area SJ at Pencoed. Our juniors came 2nd out of 7 teams. The team members are all very young and all competing at area level for the first time. Erin Bartle, Iwan Thomas Bartle, Caitlyn Wells and Megan Donnan all jumped super rounds. The Juniors have now qualified for the Championships on the 30th March!
Our Senior Teams were also fantastic! There were a total of 19 Senior Teams. 3 teams from other clubs jumped off to secure 1st-3rd places all ending on 8 faults . Our Mynydd white team consisting of Maxine Dommett, Emily Andrews, Vicky McCarthy and Natalie Webb finished on 12 faults and were placed 4th. Well done girls! Our Mynydd Red Team consisting of Edie Johnson, Sophie Davies, Flo Davies and Wendy Edwards finished on 20 faults. They weren't placed but jumped some super rounds. Our Mynydd Black Team consisting of Hayley Joshua, Sue Beckman, Nicola Smart and Jodie Pearn rode as a team if 3 as Nic hurt her back. They finished on 24 faults. They also weren't placed but jumped some great rounds. Congratulations to Megan Donnan and Natalie Webb who jumped 2 Clear rounds. We have a fab club, it was great to see team support and everyone helping each other. A lovely day! Thank you to Southerndown for hosting Competition it ran very well and on time.
Membership renewals are OVERDUE! If you have not renewed by now, existing members will lose their space and have to join the club waiting list. There will be no exceptions to this rule!

Mynydd Team Jumping Report Talygarn Equestrian Centre.29th December 2013. Mynydd Monsters consisting of Carol Brothers Louise Williams and Erin Bartle ended on 8 faults and were placed 4th . Erin had double clears and a very fast Jump off time! Well done. Mynydd Mice consisting of Jess Hayes Vicky McCarthy Gemma Hughes and Cerys Davies weren't placed but were all fab! Well done to Vicky having clear round. In the 2ft3/6 Mynydd Motorbikes consisting of Tyler Perring Sue Beckman Edie Johnson and Emily Andrews finished on clear and were placed 2nd. Well done all tremendous rounds! Mynydd Madonnas consisting of Vicky McCarthy Cerys Davies Caitlyn Wells and Rhian Carter finished on 8 faults and were placed 6 th. Caitlyn and Rhian both having double Clears. Mynydd Menaces consisting of Carol Brothers Maxine Dommett Jess Hayes and Louise Williams weren't placed but all rode very well. Carol and Maxine both had double clears - fab result! In the 2 ft6/9 it was a tight competition! Mynydd Machines consisting of Rhian Carter Sue Beckman Emily Andrews and Caitlyn Wells were placed 1st - Wowsa!!!!!! Team finished on clear. Mynydd Motors consisting of Maxine Dommett Iwan Thomas Bartle Darcy Coates and Nicola Smart finished on 4 faults and were placed 3 rd. Maxine and Nicola rode double clears well done. Mynydd Mambas consisting of Molly Groves Tyler Perrin Emily Groves and Edie Johnson Also finished on 4 faults and were placed 4 th. Emily and Molly had double clears. Fab team spirit - it was a fab day and thank you to Chris and Steve at Talygarn for putting on teams . 

Tuesday 26th November the Annual General Meeting at Pencoed RFC went well with guest speaker Jenny Myerscough from De Cymru Endurannce GB. We are looking into participating in the BHS Endurance qualifiers and possible championships in Builth Wells this year. Let us know if you are interested.

Senior Dressage Alps 2.11.13

Mynydd Red Team - consisted of Hannah James Cath Latham Abbie Taylor and Lucy Hamblett.

Hannah and Cath rode the prelim 7 tests. Hannah was unable to ride her own horse, so at the last minute decided to ride Lucy's horse Moss. She scored 67% and was placed 9th. There were 38 Riders in the Prelim test so Hannah did extremely well - well done! Cath was a late replacement to the team and scored 60.5%. Well done!

Lucy and Abbie rode the Novice 30 tests. Lucy scored 63.8% and was placed 14th individually. Fab result! Abbie agreed to ride a second horse in this team as a replacement. Abbie scored 58.8%. Well done! The weather was absolutely appalling and all the girls warmed up in very wet windy conditions. They all gave great performances and made Mynydd Riding Club proud! They weren't placed in the top 6 but with so many teams in competition, should be proud of their results.

Mynydd Black Team - consisted of Anna Evans Ceri Booth Abbie Taylor and Nicola Mcnabb. Anna and Ceri rode the Prelim test 7 and Abbie and Nicola rode the Novice test 30. Anna Scored 65% and was placed 14th. A great achievement!!!! Ceri scored 63.2% a respectable score .

Abbie scored 60.4% a great score and Nicola scored 57%.Well done! Again the Team weren't placed but even so rode some lovely tests. Thank you to Lucy Hamblett agreed to be Team Manager and said Everyone rode really well despite the bad weather.

Thank you to Riders 2000 - Claire Rooney especially for coping with all the changes. Unfortunately Horses are unpredictable and we can never guarantee they will be ready to play when we are. Well done to all Riders!CAMP UPDATE - click here


If you are attending any of the extra Monday sessions please make sure that you park in the top car park in Pencoed even if riding in the lower school, and collect your poo at all venues!

What a night! The Christmas disco on the 8th of December was loads of fun with a disco, kareoke, games and loads of lovely food!


The Christmas Show was a fab fun day, it was well attended and well supported. Everyone had loads of fun! See our pictures on facebook!


The AGM was well attended, and the talks by Hannah, Izzy and Lucy were very thought provoking and informative. Thank you ladies. The minutes of the AGM will be available shortly, the important updates are avaiable here... 


Some Brilliant news! We have been successful in our application for a grant from Sport Wales, so we now have 80% to put towards a full set of jumps, with fillers and a trailer to store and trasport them. We need to work hard to raise the remaining 20%, just over £2K. We also need to enter more members in area qualifier competitions, run another two shows, and run more weekly lessons as outcomes from the grant.


As of January the 7th we will be running extra weekly sessions on a Monday evening, on a rota basis at Pencoed, Stocklands, Alps and Sunnybank, keep an eye on the web for details!


We are looking into running Physiotherapy sessions for riders, to improve our posture, core strangth and riding position. Keep an eye on the web for more details!

A massive congratulations to one of our members Non Davies for running the Snowdonia marathon! Thank you to everyone who sponsored Non, raising lots of money towards a new trailer and jumps for our club.

We are fund raising in order to buy jumps, fillers a trailer to carry them, a PA system and lots more. Any donations welcome, raffle prizes, money, or if you would like to supply jumps and fillers or any equipment we may need please let us know. If you know of any companies who would like to sponsor a sign written fence and filler please let us know.


Our team had a fab time at the NAF BRC National Championships doing the Novice Dressage. Our team of four came 12th and our Chairperson Rhian Carter with Phoebe achieved a staggering 10 for their centre line and won their class! Well done all, you did your club proud!


The Free Partick Print Lecure Demo on the 17th November went very well, and everyone enjoyed. Thank you to everyone who helped out.


Some Polite Reminders...


Please collect all droppings from the car park, otherwise club gets fined! We have a poop scoop for you to use.


Please help to put jumps out and away on club nights, arrive early for clinics, as they say more hands make light work! If we don't have help this will eat into your lesson/clinic time that you are paying for!


When parking lorries and horseboxes in the car park in Pencoed beside the large school please park diagonally facing away from the large school and not lengthways. You can also park lorries in the area at the end of the school. No cars to be parked in both these areas on evenings and weekends as they must be reserved for horseboxes and lorries only. Do not park along the length of the school.


Please be sure to collect all droppings from the car park, otherwise club gets fined! We have a poop scoop for you to use.

No trotting in the car park.


CHECK YOUR FLU VACCINES HERE Many competitions, including AREA QUALIFIERS require your horse to be properly vaccinated for Flu, and the vaccinations must be within date. Use this checker to ensure that you will not be turned away on the day!


New Standard for Body Protectors which must be Level 3 Purple label 2000. Body protectors are strongly recommended at all times and compulsory for all at Cross Country and for Juniors at jumping competitions.

16th to 19th August 2014 Camp at Pontispool    

This is a fun packed break for members and their horsey friends. The costs are £240.00 pp to a Rider and Horse. This includes all meals for Rider and accommodation. It also includes a stable for horse with straw bedding and hay for duration of stay. The price also includes tuition in groups of 6 max. We train in all spheres, dressage, Sj and Xc. we train 2 hours am and 2 hours pm. On the last day, we hold a ODE competition for all riders. 
Several members have texted the Club booking in line requesting to reserve a space at Camp. Unfortunately we cannot reserve a space without the deposit of £90.00pp. This deposit is non returnable. Spaces will be given on a first come first served basis. Members under 16 have to be accompanied with a guardian/ Parent. for details go to our Camp Page
